My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sometimes, I just need a book to make me smile. "When Elves Attack" is that kind of book.

Serge Storms, Floridaphile and genius serial killer, is back with his stoner friend, Coleman. They dress as elves, and patrol the Tampa Bay Area streets, keeping humanity safe from muggers, abducters, and scary guys who date your teenaged daughter.

If you're already a fan of Tim Dorsey's novels, this book will delight you. Jim and Martha Davenport return, as do wild-girls City and Country, and the octogenarian G-Force.

This isn't Dickens, by any means, but it has the same irreverent reverence for Christmas as the first South Park Christmas.

In the past week, I've had a good friend die, an ex have emergency surgery, and a zillion other calamities. My friend, Christina, said to read something that would make me laugh. That means Tim Dorsey, and When Elves Attack was the perfect choice.
